Former Badger standout made four starts for the U.S.
KASHIMA, Japan -- For the second time during the 2020 Summer Olympics, a former Badger standout has won a medal as Rose Lavelle led the U.S. women's soccer team to bronze on Thursday thanks to a 4-3 win over Australia.
The four-time first-team All-Big Ten standout made four starts for the U.S. in its run to its sixth-ever Olympic medal, scoring the team's first goal in its 6-1 win over New Zealand in group play. The Cincinnati native also scored in the shootout to lead the U.S. past the Netherlands in quarterfinal play.
Lavelle joins former UW softball standout Kelsey (Jenkins) Harshman as medalists at the 2020 Summer Olympics. Harshman also won bronze with Team Canada.
