Wisconsin looks to even series with Spartans

MADISON, Wis. — The Badgers continue their home stand this week as they host the Michigan State Spartans on Jan. 14-15 at the Kohl Center.

Here are six quick things to know before tuning in:

Rosters: Badgers || Michigan State

1 - JESPER PELTONEN: This Finish defenseman netted his first career goal in his 71st game in the third period against Ohio State on Sunday. Peltonen, a senior, was named the most improved player by his teammates for his career-high seven assists last season and plus/minus of plus-11 which tied him for second best on the team.

2 - URDAHL DOES IT ALL: After a breakout performance in the Holiday Face-Off that included his first career goal and tournament-winning shootout tally, Freshman forward Zach Urdahl continues to make his name known with a goal and an assist in the Badgers' matchup against Ohio State last weekend. Urdahl became the first player to score shorthanded on OSU this season, adding to his assist the night prior for his first multi-point series.

3 - CEULEMANS TAKES OFF: Corson Ceulemans continued to prove himself as key to the Badgers' power play with an assist on Roman Ahcan's extra-strength goal last weekend. The freshman defender has eight points (two goals, six assists) in his past six games and was held pointless for the first time in five games in Wisconsin's 2-2 tie against OSU on Sunday. He currently leads the Badgers with 14 points in 19 games played this season.

4 - LAST TIME OUT: The Badgers are looking to even up the series against Michigan State after dropping two games, 3-2 and 5-2, in East Lansing in November. Carson Bantle scored his first goal as a Badger in the second matchup. Jack Gorniak led the Badgers that series with one goal and one assist.

5 - SCOUTING MSU: Michigan State dropped two games 4-1 and 6-3 to Minnesota last weekend, despite holidng a 3-1 lead in the second period in the final match.

The Spartans are 11-10-1 and 5-7-0 1-0-0 in Big Ten play. Goaltender Drew DeRidder currently ranks fifth in the nation with a .942 save percentage and has eight wins and two shutouts in 15 games played.
