
LaPoint named to U.S. Olympic Team staff for men’s hockey

Eau Claire native has been with the Badgers since 2009
MADISON, Wis. – Wisconsin men's hockey equipment manager Nate LaPoint will be heading to Beijing, China, for the 2022 Olympic Winter games as an equipment manager for the U.S. Men's Olympic Hockey Team, USA Hockey announced on Thursday.
LaPoint, who recently returned from the 2022 International Ice Hockey Federation World Junior Championship in Canada, will get another chance to represent his country, this time on the world's biggest stage.
LaPoint, who joined the Badgers for the 2009-10 season, is an Eau Claire native who already owns a gold medal with Team USA from the 2021 World Junior Championship. He also helped Team USA at the 2018 and 2019 Hlinka Gretzky Cups in Canada and Slovakia.
Wisconsin men's hockey boasts a long Olympic tradition with Badgers representing Team USA at each Games dating back to 1976 when Bob Johnson served as head coach, Grant Standbrook as an assistant coach and Steve Alley, Bob Lundeen and John Taft competed for Team USA. Taft captained the 1976 squad.
In addition to Team USA, Badgers have represented Canada at six Olympics and Austria at a pair of games.
