Badgers shut out No. 10 Minnesota Duluth for sweep

Moe records shutout in 3-0 victory
DULUTH, Minn. — The Wisconsin men's hockey team (2-4-0, 0-2-0 Big Ten) shut out No. 10 Minnesota Duluth (2-4-0, 0-0-0 NCHC) for a road sweep of their non-conference series Saturday night.
Brock Caufield gave the Badgers an early 1-0 lead 3:57 into the first period. Mathieu De St. Phalle handled the puck along the hash mark and fed a pass to Mike Vorlicky in the slot. His shot rebounded to the left side where Caulfield was able to hammer the puck into the back of the net.
The Badgers went up 2-0 in the second period when Cruz Lucius scored just seven seconds into a power play. Caufield won an offensive zone face off back to Corson Ceulemans on the point who then sent a pass to Lucius along the boards. He took a few strides then fired a shot past UMD goaltender Matthew Theissen.
Wisconsin carried their momentum into the third period and shut down the Minnesota Duluth offense thanks to a stellar shutout performance by goaltender Jared Moe.Â
The Bulldogs pulled Thessien in favor of an extra skater with two minutes remaining. Jack Gorniak took advantage of the empty net with his second goal of the series to win it for the Badgers, 3-0.Â
The Badgers posted 28 shots and Moe made 35 saves in goal for his second career shutout.
