Cruz Lucius nets first career goal
MADISON, Wis. — The Wisconsin Badgers men's hockey team opened up the regular season with a Big Ten conference matchup at Ohio State on Friday. Despite a late push and a goal from a rising freshman star, the Badgers fell 3-1 to the Buckeyes.Â
The Badgers started the season on the power play after Ohio State was assessed a delay of game penalty during warmups but were unable to convert on the man advantage.Â
Ohio State took a one-goal lead at 13:11 in the first period. Patrick Guzzo chipped the puck in from the slot, assisted by Jaedon Leslie and Joe Dunlap.
The Buckeyes increased their lead to 2-0 when Leslie netted a goal on a feed from Guzzo and Patrick Marooney in the second period
Ohio State then went up 3-0 at 15:30 in the third period with a goal from Stephen Halliday during a 5-on-3 power play, assisted by Travis Treloar and Mason Lohrei.
Cruz Lucius responded for the Badgers with his first collegiate goal just over a minute later when he tapped in a pass from Ben Dexheimer on the back door. Mathieu De St. Phalle started the play along the boards in the Buckeyes' zone and found Dexheimer on the point, who threaded a pass for Lucius to tap in.Â
The Badgers puched from there, including over two minutes of extra attacker time, but were unable to make up the deficit, falling 3-1 to Ohio State.Â
