
Five events to watch: Wisconsin hosts Windy City Invitational

Badgers head back to Chicago for two-day event
MADISON, Wis.-- The Badgers are heading back to Chicago for the Wisconsin Windy City Invitational this weekend, competing against Arizona, Howard, Illinois, Michigan, Michigan State, Oregon, Purdue, Tulsa and South Florida. Field events begin at 12 p.m. on Friday with running events starting at 3:40 p.m. On Saturday, running events start at 11 a.m. and field events at 11:30 a.m.

Here are five events to watch this weekend.
1. WONDERFUL WEIGHTS: A quarter of Badgers compete in the men's weight throw on Friday at 2 p.m., including two coming off personal best throws. Redshirt freshman Jason Swarens finished second at the Red Hawk Invitational last weekend, throwing a personal best of 63 feet, 8 3/4 inches, which ranks ninth at UW. Senior Dan Ufearo took third last weekend, recording a personal best of 63-5, which ranks 10th at Wisconsin. Grad transfer Sam Coil lead the Badger throwers with a season's best mark of 68-1 1/2, which ranks fifth at Wisconsin and eighth in the Big Ten this season. Cole Hooper will also be competing in the weight throw.
In the shot put, Andrew Stone continues his assault on the Badger school record on Saturday at 11:30 a.m.. The junior ranks second all time at 65-0 1/2, just seven inches off the UW record and ranking third in the Big Ten this season. Swarens will also compete in the shot, coming off a person best throw of 59-5 3/4 last weekend, which ranks eighth at Wisconsin.
2. MILE MANIACS: The men's mile is going to be an event to watch this weekend. In addition to the Magnificent Mile on Friday night at 7:30 p.m. in which professional athletes Cooper Teare and Cole Hocker are looking set an American record, an invitational mile on Saturday at 2:08 p.m. features some of the nation's top college athletes. The Badgers will be represented by Olin Hacker, who currently leads the NCAA with a personal best time os 3 minutes, 56.66 seconds. He will be joined by teammates Jackson Sharp, who is coming off a personal best time in the 3,000 meters two weeks ago, and freshman Adam Spencer, who has run 4:04.04 this season.
3. DMR DEBUT: Wisconsin competes in the distance medley relay (1200m-400m-800m-1600m) for the first time this season. The event is scheduled for 5:55 p.m. on Friday. The Badgers have two relays entered with UW's top quartet of Jackson Sharp, Colin Enz, Abdullahi Hassan and Olin Hacker competing against Ansel Fellman, Liam Belson, Kavanaugh Fitzpatrick and Nick Hruskoci as well as two teams from Oregon and a team from South Florida. Sharp and Enz are member's the UW's school-record setting relay, setting the best mark of 9:25.84 in 2020. Sharp also anchored Wisconsin's relay to the 2021 Big Ten Indoor title along with Enz and Fellman.
4. 3000 FOR SHARP, ELLENBERG: Among the invitational events this weekend is the 3,000 meters on Saturday at 3:26 p.m. Junior Jackson Sharp and sophomore Rowen Ellenberg represent the Badgers in the distance event. Sharp ran a personal best of 7:51.65 two weeks ago in Indiana while Ellenberg has competed only once this season. The field is loaded with Oregon's Jack Yearian and Aaron Bienenfeld ranked among the nation's top-15 runners in the event this season. Wisconsin teammates Jack Meijer and Charlie Wheeler compete in the open 3,000 on Saturday at 11:15 a.m.
