NCAA All-American and four-time qualifier transferring to wrestle for Badgers
MADISON, Wis. — Wisconsin wrestling will welcome NCAA All-American and four-time NCAA qualifier Taylor LaMont to the team's roster this fall, announced head coach Chris Bono.
LaMont is transferring from Utah Valley University where he was one of the Wolverines top wrestlers. He will have one year of eligibility to wrestle for the Badgers.
"We are fired up to have Taylor join our program!" said Bono. "He has incredibly high goals and is passionate in his pursuit to be the best version of himself."
LaMont has competed at both 125 and 133 pounds, earning NCAA qualifications at both weights. He qualified for the national tournament in 2018, 2020, 2021 and 2022, earning his All-American honor after finishing fifth in 2021 at 125 (he completed a redshirt year during the 2016-17 season and medical redshirt during 2018-19 season).
LaMont has also earned numerous academic honors, including Scholar All-American awards from the National Wrestling Coaches Association and First-Team Academic All-Big 12 honors in his previous conference. He recently completed a master's degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from UVU.
Hailing from Mapleton, Utah, LaMont most recently finished with a 12-6 overall record during the 2021-22 season with a 4-2 record in duals. Ranked as high as fourth overall in the nation among 125-pounders by InterMat, LaMont earned an automatic qualification to the NCAA tournament after placing fifth at the Big 12 Championship (UVU competes in the Big 12 for wrestling - considered one of the nation's toughest wrestling conferences with Big Ten).
