Wisconsin Softball claims victory in the "Pay It Forward" Letterwinner Challenge
June 08, 2022 | General News, Softball
The "Pay It Forward" Letterwinner Challenge returned in 2022, with the UW Softball team claiming their second victory in as many years.
Launched in January and focused on the competitive spirit of our W Club letterwinners, the campaign saw support for each of our athletic teams. Over $1.59 million was donated by UW Letterwinners, a nearly 18% increase from last year's total. The campaign also saw 146 new participants in its' second year.
"After a very successful first campaign, the Pay It Forward Letterwinner Challenge continued to be a creative way to engage former student-athletes in year two," said Executive Director of the W Club Nick Pasquarello. "Badgers are a strong and resilient bunch, and the fact they renewed their support to our current and future student-athletes through this initiative proves just how generous our letterwinners are. It is no secret just how special of a place Wisconsin is, so when opportunities arise to preserve the exceptional experience our student-athletes are exposed to, it is very humbling and I am honored to represent such a special group of people. The rallying cry of Once a Badger, Always a Badger never rang more true! "
The winning program was Softball, seeing 32.5% of their letterwinners participate. They earn a 2022 Badger game day tailgate & an on-field recognition at a Football game. Rounding off the podium was Women's Swimming and Diving in second and Women's Golf in third.
"Giving back to UW was one of the easiest decisions I've ever made. Being in a place where I can give back to a place that gave me everything is truly amazing," said Kelsey Jenkins, '18 Softball Letterwinner. "The Badger experience is an unforgettable one and the relationships that I created will never be forgotten! I am forever grateful to UW and the Women's Softball Team. I hope me giving back opens up more doors for future generations of Badgers!"
Wisconsin Athletics thanks all UW letterwinners for their participation in this annual challenge. With your donation, you help build our athletic department into the national powerhouse we are today, and we are grateful for your support. Though this year's challenge has ended, letterwinners still interested in donating to support their program can do so at SupportTheBadgers.org.
"Seeing so many Badger letterwinners supporting current student-athletes is incredible," said Assistant Athletic Director of Development Chad Kimmel. "Gifts in support of our 23 sports are vital for the continued success of Wisconsin Athletics."
