Thursday’s Bob Suter Memorial Classic raises money for Madison-area youth hockey gear
MADISON, Wis. – Among the things the late Bob Suter was known for throughout his life was helping grow the game of hockey and supporting kids playing the world's greatest game in the Madison area.
That legacy continues with the Bob Suter Memorial Foundation and this week with the second annual Bob Suter Memorial Classic exhibition game.
Upwards of 25 Badgers men's and women's hockey players from various eras will be among those set to hit the ice on Thursday at Bob Suter's Capitol Ice Arena beginning at 6:30 p.m. It's all to benefit Suter's foundation and in this case to raise money to purchase hockey gear for Madison-area youth hockey players.
The game enters its second year with all-star rosters that include the likes of Ryan Suter, Joe Pavelski, Brian Elliott, Adam Burish, Barry Richter, Annie Pankowski and other Badger greats.
Combined, the Badgers playing in the game own 19 NCAA championships.
It will be Team Granato with Tony Granato behind one bench, and Team Suter, with Gary Suter behind the other.
Last year's event was a bit more competitive than expected in this type of charity exhibition contest and the same is expected again this year.
