MADISON, Wis. - The Wisconsin women's soccer team returned home to face the Indiana Hoosiers for its first Big Ten game at McClimon this season. On a Sunday that felt like one of the first days of fall, the Badgers continued their offensive excellence to shut out Indiana 2-0.
Wisconsin was granted the upper hand after the Hoosiers goalkeeper was handed a red card due to a high kick to the face on Rylee Howard in the 32nd minute. Going down a player, the Badgers took advantage of the change in formation and scored shortly after the shift. With a free kick sent in by Aidan McConnell and Adee Boer redirecting it, Emma Jaskaniec slid into the box and sent the ball to the back of the net in exceptional fashion in the 34th minute.
Just five minutes later, Jaskaniec got past the Hoosiers defender to send a ball in front of goal where Riley Philbin put her body on the line to place it in the back of the net. This was Philbin's first goal of her career and was celebrated accordingly by the team.
With the team's offensive mindset in full force, Wisconsin's defense remained steady and strong in the few moments they were tested. A shot that ricocheted off of the post was the closest Indiana got to scoring just their third goal of the season, however, Erin McKinney handled every shot that was sent her way and made four saves on the day.
The Badgers will remain at home to prepare for their next game versus Maryland on Thursday, Sept. 29 at 7 p.m.
