STATE COLLEGE, Penn. - The No. 21 Wisconsin Badgers (12-3-3) faced the No. 4 Nittany Lions (12-1-4) in the regular season finale.
The Badgers served the Nittany Lions its first loss of the season with a score of 1-0. The last time the Badgers won against Penn State at Jeffrey was in 2010.
How it happened
It was a brisk day at Jeffrey Field with a high of 45° and intense wind. The Badgers started the first half strong, keeping the ball prominently in Nittany Lion territory.
Aryssa Mahrt had a beautiful look at the goal in minute 29, but was quickly caught by the Penn State keeper.
The Badgers kept their aggressive pace in the offensive zone, taking three shots on goal in the first half. Erin McKinney stayed comfortable in the net, facing a single shot.
The score going into the half was 0-0.
Wisconsin started the second half going against the wind.
The Badger defense heated up early in the second, stopping a potential shot and a handful of corner kicks.
The offensive momentum started gaining once again with a shot by Emma Jaskaniec in minute 54.
The Nittany Lions had two more corners in the 61st minute, with McKinney making saves on both. She made another huge one in minute 68 on a breakaway from Penn State.
Thanks to Ashley Martinez, the Badgers were on the board. In the 83rd minute, Mahrt broke away to take a shot. The Penn State keeper went down, allowing Martinez to capitalize.
McKinney made five saves in the second half, with the team equalizing with five shots on net.
