Badgers earn two NCAA “A” cuts at Texas Invitational

800 free relay and 400 medley relays shine

AUSTIN, Texas – The No.12 Wisconsin women's swimming and diving team (4-0, 2-0 B1G) continues the regular season at the Texas Invitational in Austin,Texas. The Badgers earned 12 NCAA qualifying marks in Texas, including two automatic qualifying times in relays.

Relay Dominance

To start of the weekend on Wednesday, the Badgers' 800 free relay earned the first NCAA "A" time of the season. Wisconsin's top relay team consisting of Abby Carlson, Phoebe Bacon, Abby Wanezek, and Blair Stoneburg hit the wall in 6 minutes, 59.75 seconds to finish fourth in the qualifying time. Bacon, Hazal Ozkan, Mackenzie McConagha, and Hailey Tierney also placed fourth in the 200 medley relay, earning an NCAA "B" cut time of 1:36.98 on Wednesday.

On night two, the 400 medley relay also earned an NCAA "A" time of 3:30.47 to earn the fourth place spot. The team consisted of Bacon, Ozkan, Tierney, and McConagha.

Other Top Finishers

Carlson continued the momentum in the Badgers in individual events, earning a third-place finish in the 500 free with an NCAA "B" cut time of 4:39.50. Wisconsin picked up five NCAA B cuts in the event as Maddie Waggoner, placed fifth in 4:41.47 while Stoneburg was the third fastest finisher for the Badgers, placing ninth in 4:39.08. Paige Mckenna placed 10th in 4:42.84 and Alivia Lindorfer placed 14th in 4:45.11 also in qualifying times.

Bacon led the Badgers in the 200 individual medley, placing third in 1:55.14. She was followed by Ozkan, who placed 13th in 1:57.80 and Callahan Dunn who finished in 1:58.02. All three swimmers earned "B" cut times. Bacon also participated in a 100-meter backstroke time trial, earning an Olympic Trials qualifying time of 1:00.62.

In the 50 free, Tierney continues to dominate, placing fourth in 22.11 with another NCAA "B" cut. She was followed up by Abby Wanezek, who placed 15th in 22.64 and Sophie Fiske, who placed 17th in 22.89.

Up Next

The Badgers continue competition in both the Texas Invitational and Georgia Invitational on Friday and Saturday. Preliminaries begin at 10 a.m. in Texas with finals at 6 p.m.
