Badgers earn two Olympic Trial cuts at U.S. Open

Bacon and Braun qualify for Olympic Trials in Omaha
GREENSBORO, N.C. – The No.12 Wisconsin women's and No. 20 men's swimming and diving teams continue the regular season, finishing the first two days of competition at the U.S. Open. Prelims start daily at 8 a.m. CT, while finals start at 5 p.m. CT. Live results can be accessed here.
The Badgers kicked off night one with the 800-meter freestyle. Standing out for Wisconsin was senior Elle Braun, who placed eighth in the event with a personal best time of eight minutes and 40.67 seconds. This time also crushed the Olympic Trials cut by over three seconds. Maddie Waggoner was close behind, placing 12th in 8:48.37. Alivia Lindorfer also placed 18th in eight minutes and 8:55.20.
On the men's side, Yigit Aslan was the only Badger to compete in the distance free, placing 21st in 8:17.15.
Standing out for Wisconsin on day two was captain and senior Phoebe Bacon. Bacon had the highest individual placement for the Badgers, placing 10th in the 200-meter individual medley, with an Olympic trial cut time of 2:12.94. Hazal Ozkan was also in the event, placing 36th in 2:18.76.
Dominik Mark-Torok also had an impressive start to the meet, placing eighth in the 400 individual medley in 2:01.38.
Abby Carlson also stepped up to the plate, placing 13th in the 400 free to qualify for the "B" final. She hit the wall in 4:15.58, with Braun close behind placing 19th in 4:18.03.
