Junior libero recognized for athletic and academic achievement
MADISON, Wis. – Julia Orzol, a junior libero on the third-ranked Wisconsin volleyball team, has been named to the 2023 Academic All-District Volleyball team, selected by College Sports Communicators. The teams recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom.
Orzol, 6-foot libero, is a three-year starter for the Badgers, transitioning to libero this season after two seasons at outside hitter. This season, she has played in all 33 matches and 115 sets, starting 27 at libero and six at outside hitter. She ranks first on the team with 3.52 digs per set, recording double-figure digs in 27 matches. Orzol has led the team in digs in 22 matches this season.
The junior leads the team with 0.32 service aces per set, and recorded a career-high four aces vs Ohio State. Orzol also chips in 0.50 assist per set. In the NCAA tournament, she earned Regional All-Tournament team.
Last season, Orzol received the same award, after putting up impressive numbers as a six-rotation player, in addition to being named to Second-Team All-Big Ten.
As a freshman, the Olsztyn, Poland, native was named the 2021 Big Ten Freshman of the Year and was named to the Big Ten All-Freshman team.
In the classroom, Orzol has a 3.93 cumulative grade point average in business.
Academic All-America® honorees will be announced in late December, for first, second and third-team.
