Varsity eight place second, second noice eight place first
OAK RIDGE, Tenn. — The Wisconsin Badgers women's rowing team's varsity eight placed second in its final race of the Cardinal Invitational on Melton Hill Lake on Sunday.
The Badgers battled through below freezing conditions in another round of racing against teams from across the country.
After coming in behind Notre Dame on the first day of competition, the Badger's varsity eight showed improvement by placing over the Fighting Irish to claim a second place finish. Wisconsin's second novice eight also edged out Tennessee and Indiana to finish first in its division.

On the regatta
"We had a really good morning yesterday overall. I think the two varsity eight on the open weight side really stepped up and were way better which is good. They held their technique pretty well which was our main focus, getting them efficient and able to go hard. They added a little bit more racing skill to this adventure. Our motto is getting a week better everyday and I think they did that yesterday."
Looking forward
"We've still got a long way to go and our freshmen probably have to get two weeks better in a day because of their lack of experience but I think they can do it and we're definitely on the right trajectory. It's go-time and that's what we'll do. When the water breaks we'll have already raced multiple times most likely. While it's not ideal it's what we do as Badgers and we make it work. Look out, here we come!"
Up Next: The Badgers compete at the Sunshine State Regatta in Sarasota, Florida, on March 31 and April 1.
