
Gueths, Filios earn CSC Academic All-District honors

Duo recognized for their work on the water and in the classroom
MADISON, Wis. – Wisconsin women's rowing graduate student Brandi Gueths and senior Paula Filios earned recognition as part of the 2023 Academic All-District Women's At-Large Team, as selected by College Sports Communicators.
The award recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances in the athletic realm and in the classroom.
Gueths (pronounced GEETS), a kinesiology graduate student with a 4.0 grade-point average, earned a 3.987 grade-point average as an undergraduate majoring in kinesiology.
The Shawano native is a UW Athletic Board Scholar as the rower with the highest GPA on the team.
On the water, Gueths was nominated for 2023 Big Ten Women's Rowing Athlete of the Year. A 2022 Second-Team All-Big Ten Rower, she earned 2021 CRCA Pocock Honorable Mention All-America and Second-Team All-Big Ten honors. She was also a 2022 CRCA National Scholar Athlete.

Rowing for UW's varsity eight for most of the 2023 spring, Gueths was in the 2021 varsity eight that placed 14th at the NCAA championships in Sarasota, Florida. She helped that squad take fourth at the Big Ten championships, and the 2019 squad finish third at Big Tens.

In addition, Gueths is expected to become a four-time Big Ten Distinguished Scholar and four-time Academic All-Big Ten selection.

She was also invited to the 2021 USRowing U23 National Team Camp

Filios, an economics and German major with a 3.972 grade-point average, coxed UW's varsity eight for most of 2023, including at the Big Ten championships.

Expected to become a three-time Big Ten Distinguished Scholar and three-time Academic All-Big Ten rower, the Alexandria, Virginia, native coxed the second varsity eight to 12th place at the 2021 NCAA Championships in Sarasota, Florida. Â

Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced June 21 (men) and June 22 (women).
