Wisconsin Athletics Strengthens Support for NIL Operations

Badgers partner with Altius to add in-house Athlete Marketing Manager

MADISON, Wis. – Wisconsin Athletics is collaborating with Altius Sports Partners (ASP), a trusted advisor to top-tier collegiate athletic programs and sports properties, to select an Athlete Marketing Manager to manage Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) operations. As part of its existing partnership with UW, ASP will be responsible for hiring and managing the full-time position on campus, strengthening Wisconsin Athletics' commitment to providing the best NIL support and opportunities for its athletes across sports.

The NIL Athlete Marketing Manager job posting can be accessed here.

The aim is to equip Badger student-athletes with the necessary tools, knowledge, and resources to maximize NIL opportunities and make informed decisions. The Athlete Marketing Manager will act as a liaison between Brian Mason, the department's Director of NIL Strategy, and various stakeholders, ensuring effective communication on NIL-related matters. This includes providing education, training, and monitoring, while also collaborating closely with the compliance office to ensure compliance with rules and regulations.

"This partnership with Altius Sports Partners continues our commitment to providing resources for our Badgers to thrive in the NIL landscape. NIL is an integral piece of the student-athlete opportunity here at UW and is vital to the success of our programs. We are excited about the positive impact this program will have on our athletes' success on and off the field, benefiting all stakeholders involved," said Wisconsin Deputy Athletic Director Mitchell Pinta.

The on-campus ASP role will offer impartial guidance, support, and education to all athletes, working closely with department staff. The Athlete Marketing Manager also will collaborate with university stakeholders, including Badger Sports Properties Manager of NIL Business Development Corie Linn, to foster opportunities for new and established brand partners, promoting greater engagement in NIL. Moreover, this position will be instrumental in raising awareness among influential business leaders and external stakeholders in the community regarding NIL initiatives at the University of Wisconsin.

Wisconsin will be the only program in the nation to boast both a dedicated NIL Business Development Manager through LEARFIELD's Allied+ program and an NIL Athlete Marketing Manager through Altius Sport Partners' on-campus program.

"The in-house Athlete Marketing Manager strengthens our commitment to empowering student-athletes in navigating the opportunities and complexities of NIL," said Brian Mason, Wisconsin's Director of NIL Strategy. "Through collaboration with Altius Sports Partners, we aim to bridge the gap between our student-athletes and the partners and resources available to them, ensuring effective communication and support and, ultimately, helping to drive more valuable NIL opportunities for them."

"Finding the right person to help educate and guide athletes towards success in this landscape is pivotal and Wisconsin's investment in this program demonstrates their continued dedication to providing those resources and opportunities," said Celine Mangan, Director of Business and Client Strategy at ASP.

With full-time trained ASP personnel stationed on campus, Wisconsin Athletics is ensuring that their student-athletes have access to expert knowledge on various NIL issues, including licensing, branding, sponsorship and agents.

The ASP on-campus program is designed to centralize support services for NIL, creating a distinct standalone vertical within athletics departments. The program, launched in July 2022, offers customized education for each department to navigate the changing landscape. ASP personnel bring a wealth of knowledge on national issues such as licensing, sponsorship, agents, employment, labor, collective bargaining, Title IX, and other issues. Eleven schools are participating in the program, with full-time trained ASP personnel stationed on campus to equip student-athletes with the necessary tools and resources to maximize opportunities.
