No. 5 Wisconsin falls to No. 1 USC, 3-1, in Sweet 16

Dara Andringa scores late, but Wisconsin could not overcome USC's dominance

IRVINE, Calif. – The No. 5 Wisconsin women's soccer team fell to the No. 1 USC Trojans, 3-1, in the Sweet 16 round of the NCAA Tournament. This game marked the Badgers' fifth appearance at this stage.

How it Happened

First Half

Wisconsin entered the match as the underdog against USC, who displayed a dominant presence in the attacking third early on.

A controversial handball by Wisconsin led to a penalty kick, which USC converted in the 41st minute to take the lead.

Despite trailing at halftime, the Badgers managed to earn two corner kicks.

Second Half

UW came out of the locker room with a vengeance, dominating possession early in the second half.

However, USC's defense stood firm, and the Trojans extended their lead with goals in the 59th and 64th minutes.

In the 84th minute, Wisconsin's Dara Andringa scored to pull one back for the Badgers, but it wasn't enough to close the gap as USC held on for the 3-1 victory.
