Watch 'Wisconsin: Where They Row'
MADISON, Wis. - The Wisconsin men's rowing programs boasts a rich tradition over its 150 years of history, including 14 Ten Eyck Trophies as team national champions and 73 rowers who have raced for the U.S. National Team.
Our alumni produced 'Wisconsin: Where They Row' a film to celebrate our 150-year history. Wiscosnin men's rowing began in 1874 as the first sport at UW.
While rowing is typically known as a coastal/Ivy League sport, Wisconsin prides itself on teaching home-grown athletes how to compete on the world stage without any prior rowing experience. In the last 25 years, only five rowing programs have been able to win a national title, with Wisconsin doing so in 2008 with five novice rowers.
The film was created and screened for an audience of Wisconsin alumni to assist in raising an endowment and solidifying the future of the men's rowing program. The film shares the rich history of Wisconsin rowing, facing challenges of war, funding and worldwide change. The crew has changed over time, but the grit these athletes display stays the same. Written, directed, produced and edited by Ian Tunney '20, Inspired by the book WISCONSIN WHERE THEY ROW by Brad Taylor.
The film was supported by Friends of UW Men's Rowing and the Stewards of 1874.
