Openweights kick off spring rowing in Tennessee
OAK RIDGE, Tenn. – The Wisconsin women's openweight rowing team begins its spring racing season this Saturday and Sunday, March 16-17, at the Cardinal Invitational on Melton Hill Lake.
Before they hit the water, here are f(oar) things to know:
1. AT THE HELM: Vicki Opitz begins her first spring season as the newest head coach of the Wisconsin women's rowing team.
"The goals for the program this year are to build off of the performances for the last couple of years," she said. "We've had a lot of our senior standing athletes step up in a way that has been incredibly impressive in the coaches' eyes. I think with their leadership in combination with a lot of the fitness that they've picked up over this winter training, I'm very to see where it's going to lead us in our first couple of races."

3. OLYMPIC DREAMS: Four Wisconsin women's rowing alumni were invited to the 2024 U.S. Olympic Selection Camp that is currently running from March 3-24 in Sarasota, Florida, at Nathan Benderson Park.
The camp will select the women's double sculls, lightweight women's double sculls, women's four, men's four and women's eight that will compete at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games July 27-August 4.
