Badgers tie for sixth after three rounds of play
STATESBORO, Ga. – After three days at the 44th Schenkel Invitational, the Wisconsin men's golf team finished tied for sixth place at 14-under par. Â
The Badgers completed the tournament with a 850 (288-275-287), led by Coalter Smith who tied for 14th place at five-under par. Individual competitor, Daniel Aas, finished tied for second place among the 84 golfers at the invitational at 10-under par.Â
Reigning National Champion Florida earned top honors among the 14-team field at 27-under par, while South Carolina's Nathan Franks paced the individuals at 13-under par.Â
For his best round of the tournament, Smith shot a three-under 69, placing him tied for 14th at five-under par overall. Improving his score each round, sophomore Spencer Turtz carded a one-under 71 to finish tied for 48th at two-over par.
Cameron Huss made par in the final round, bringing his total score to a two-under par and placing him tied for 30th. Jacob Beckman and Blake Wisdom each shot a three-over 75, with Beckman finishing tied for 30th at three-under par, and Wisdom tying for 41st at par.Â
Aas once again found himself under par, shooting a two-under 70 with five birdies. The senior finished tied for second at 10-under par, in addition to tying for the lead among all golfers in birdies with 21.Â
Setting a new career-low 18-hole score of 66 (-6), Beckman moved up 30 spots in the leaderboard to finish the day tied for sixth at six-under par overall. Beckman tallied six birdies in the round, bringing his tournament total to 10.Â
Improving his score by six strokes, Cameron Huss shot a four-under 68 to tie for 27th at two-under par. Blake Wisdom shot a two-under 70 to tie for 21st at three-under par, while Coalter Smith carded a one-under 71 to tie for 27th at two-under par. Spencer Turtz made par, grabbing an eagle on the final hole of the day. The sophomore is now tied for 56th at three-over par.Â
Individual Aas shot a two-under 70, bringing his total to eight-under par. The senior is in fourth place and leads all golfers with 16 birdies.Â
Competing as an individual, Aas tallied a new career-low 18-hole score of 66 (-6) in the opening round. The senior led all 84 golfers in the tournament in birdies with an impressive 10.
Smith and Wisdom each carded a one-under 71 to start the invitational, with Wisdom tallying six birdies. The Wisconsin duo is currently tied for 17th place.Â
Beckman made par to tie for 36th, while Huss shot a two-over 74 to tie for 52nd. Turtz rounded out the lineup with a three-over 75, placing him tied for 60th.Â
