Badger release its full slate of matches for 2024
MADISON, Wis. — Wisconsin volleyball and head coach Kelly Sheffield officially announce its full slate of 29 matches for its 2024 regular season schedule. The Badgers will play nine matches against teams ranked in the Top 25 of the final 2024 American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) coaches' poll and 14 matches against teams that participated in the 2023 NCAA Tournament. The Badgers will face off against 14 opponents in the Top 60 of the final 2023 RPI, including three in the Top 5 and five in the Top 10.
Badgers Under the Limelight
On Tuesday, August 27, the Badgers will take on Louisville as part of the AVCA First Serve Showcase at KFC Yum Center in Louisville, Ky. to officially kick off the season. UW continues the challenging schedule with the Women's College Volleyball Showcase at Fiserv Forum on Sept. 1-2. The Badgers are set for a National Semifinal rematch, as they play Texas, the reigning National Champions on Sept. 1. The next day, UW gears up to play Stanford on Sept. 2. Stanford was a 2023 Elite Eight team, before ultimately falling to Texas, 3-1.
The Badgers remain on the road, as they head down to Baylor for back-to-back matches with TCU and Baylor on Sept. 6 and Sept. 7. Baylor exited the 2023 NCAA tournament in the second round, as Kentucky swept them. The Horned Frogs also lost in the second round, taking one set off Arkansas.
Four-Straight Matches at Home
Wisconsin opens up the home season at the UW Field House with a four-match home stand. The Badgers welcome Milwaukee on Sept. 10, before they take on Marquette a week later on Sept. 17. The Badgers played Marquette last year at the Fiserv Forum, winning 3-1. The Golden Eagles lost to Purdue, 3-1, in the second round of the 2023 NCAA tournament.
Rounding out the home stand, and non-conference schedule, are two matches against Troy and Texas A&M on Sept. 20 and Sept. 21, respectively. Texas A&M fell in the first round of the 2023 NCAA Tournament to Texas, 3-1.
Big Ten Play
The Badgers kick off the Big Ten season with three games on the road, as they travel to Minnesota to play the Gophers on Sept. 25. They will then travel down to Evanston and take on Northwestern on Sept. 28, and then head to the east coast to play Rutgers on Oct. 2.
After a long stretch on the road, the Badgers welcome new Big Ten opponent, Washington, to the UW Field House for the Big Ten home opener. The next weekend, UW will play a pair against Maryland Northwestern on Oct. 11 and Oct. 13 at the UW Field House. Concluding the four-match home stretch, the Badgers host Oregon, most recently defeating the Ducks, 3-1, to punch their ticket to the National Semifinals.
Wisconsin will take to the road to play Michigan on Oct. 20, before traveling to Indiana to play the Hoosiers on Oct. 24 and Purdue on Oct. 26. After road matches, the Badgers will return home to play Nebraska on Nov. 1. The Badgers travel down to Illinois to play the Fighting Illini on Nov. 3, before returning home for back-to-back matches against Iowa on Nov. 8 and Penn State on Nov. 9.
The Badgers will head out to the West Coast to take on new Big Ten foes, as they face USC on Nov. 14 and UCLA on Nov. 16. The team returns home to play Minnesota on Nov. 20, before traveling to play Nebraska in Lincoln on Nov. 23.
