Rose Bowl Champions Reunion
On Saturday, the Badgers will celebrate three legendary teams that changed the course of Wisconsin Football history. These groups of Badgers helped establish the decorated history of the program in one of the most illustrious games in college football: The Rose Bowl.
1993
32 years ago, led by Head Coach Barry Alvarez, the 1993 Wisconsin Badgers captured the hearts of fans from across Wisconsin and the nation. Capped by a win in Tokyo over Michigan State, the Badgers posted a 9-1-1 regular season record before heading to Pasadena where Wisconsin scored its first-ever Rose Bowl victory, a 21-16 win over UCLA. Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year Brent Moss earned Rose Bowl MVP honors and the Badger defense forced four second-half turnovers en route to the win.
1998
Five years later, the Badgers earned Rose Bowl glory. Behind a dominant offensive line and All-American running back Ron Dayne, the 1998 team secured the Big Ten Championship behind a 10-1 regular season record and defeated UCLA, 38-31, in Pasadena. Dayne turned in a legendary Rose Bowl performance, rushing for 246 yards and four scores and the Badgers reached 11 wins for the first time in school history.
1999
In the very next season, the 1999 Badgers would make history once again – Becoming the first Big Ten team ever to win back-to-back Rose Bowls, defeating Stanford 17-9 and cementing Wisconsin’s place among college football’s elite. Dayne became college football’s all-time leading rusher and was named the Heisman Trophy winner, rushing for more than 2,000 yards and 20 touchdowns.
