
Wrestling sweeps home double-header, moves to 7-0

Badgers come up with wins against Lock Haven and Utah Valley
MADISON, Wis. — The Wisconsin wrestling team took home two victories at the Field House on Thursday night, beating Lock Haven, 24-11, and Utah Valley, 23-14 in a double-header.
The team is now 7-0 to start the season in dual play, last equaled by the 2021-22 squad.
Dual One vs. Lock Haven
In the 133 weight class, Zan Fugitt saw a 5-0 lead turn to 3-1 after a challenged headgear violation. The No. 7 ranked wrestler held off for the victory, however, securing a 3-2 decision.
After Lock Haven recorded a tech fall, Joseph Zargo brought the Badger lead back up, earning his own 19-4 tech fall in the 149 weight class.Â
Nobody was giving up anything in the 157 bout, until Luke Mechler took down his opponent for three points near the end of period two, coming away with a 4-0 decision.
Lock Haven took a few bouts back before Wyatt Ingham flipped the script back in Wisconsin's favor, coming away with a 10-0 shutout victory in the 197 weight class.
In the final bout, the heavyweights were locked in a close matchup. Tied up 1-1 going into period three, Braxton Amos earned a take down to shut the door on the first dual of the double-header. Amos' 4-1 decision sealed a 24-11 Wisconsin victory.

Dual Two vs. Utah Valley
Joe Zargo began the rally for the Badgers, earning his first pin of the season 3:11 into the bout - cutting the deficit from 10-0 to 10-6. Luke Mechler kept the Badgers going, overcoming a 1-0 deficit in period three for a 2-1 decision.
It was Cody Goebel who gave the lead back to the Badgers. His tie-breaking take down at the end of period three allowed for a 4-1 decision to give UW a 12-10 lead.
Wisconsin didn't look back after that. Luke Condon rebounded after losing the first dual's match in sudden victory, coming back with a 6-2 decision.
The two teams then traded major decisions, with Wisconsin's Wyatt Ingham coming up with a 10-2 win to put UW up 19-14 going into the final bout.
Braxton Amos left nothing up to chance, sealing the win with a 12-1 MD to complete the sweep.
