Five things to know: Badgers kick off track and field season this weekend

Wisconsin will travel to Boston and Chicago for a pair of away meets
MADISON, Wis. – The Wisconsin women's track and field team is set to compete in Chicago Cougars Alumni Open on Friday, Dec. 5 and in Boston for the BU Sharon Colyear- Danville Season Opener on Saturday, Dec. 6.
The Cougar Alumni Open is set to take place at 2:00 p.m. CT, hosted by Chicago State, while the BU Sharon Colyear- Danville Season Opener begins at 10:00 a.m. CT, hosted by Boston University.

1. FROM TRAILS TO TRACK: Wisconsin women's cross country concluded their season on Nov. 22 at the national stage, having two Badgers earn their personal bests, Kylie Finger and Mya Bunke. Leane Willemse was one of the top performers for UW this season, finishing in first for the Badgers in three of her six races she competed in.
2. KYLIE'S PR POWER: Graduate Student Kylie Finger led the Badgers at the NCAA Cross Country Championships, capping off her season with a personal best in the 6K. She finished in 100th place overall, covering the course in 19:57.4. Finger is slated to run the 5000m at the BU Sharon Colyear Danville Opener on Saturday. This will be her first time running the 5000m for track.
3. LAST YEAR'S KICKOFF: The Badgers kicked off their last track and field season at the Cougars Alumni Open, where the distance runners dominated the 3K, earning the top five placings. Four of the top five runners are returning to the UW track roster this season. Zaira Malloy-Salgado finished first in the 3000m, with a time of 09:51.88. Myra Stray trailed Malloy-Salgado, covering the distance in 9:56.92. Liv Phillips finished in third, followed by Annika Elliot and Eva Kuehn. On Friday, Emma Kruse, Zaira Malloy-Salgado and Eva Kuehn will be running the mile. Last year, Emma Kruse finished in second for the mile in Chicago, sprinting it in 5:07.52.
4. JOIN US TRACKSIDE: For Fridays Cougar Alumni Open, spectators attending in person can purchase tickets for $10 online prior here. The live results can be viewed here for those not able to attend in person.On Saturday, the BU Sharon Colyear- Danville Season Opener will take place at the Boston University Track and Tennis Center located at 100 Ashford Street. It is recommended to purchase tickets in advance to ensure you receive a ticket if they meet it to sell out. Tickets are $12 and can be purchased here. The meet can also be watched from home on live streaming.
5. UP NEXT: The Badgers will have over a month-long break before hosting the Wisconsin Midwest Invite on Jan. 10. The race will take place at the Gately Stadium in Chicago, Illinois.
