Wisconsin falls short at No. 8 Ohio State

Mosley notches 50th career goal in his 160th career game

COLUMBUS, Ohio – An Ohio State goal with three minutes left in the third period proved to be the difference as the Wisconsin men's hockey team fell, 4-2, to the No. 8 Buckeyes on Saturday night at the Schottenstein Center.

Ohio State (20-8-2, 13-6-1 Big Ten - 40 points) opened the scoring with 1:42 remaining in the first period. Wisconsin (11-18-3, 6-15-1 Big Ten - 24 points) rebounded early in the second as Ryland Mosley and Ryan Botterill struck in the opening two minutes of the frame to give the Badgers a 2-1 lead. The Buckeyes then tied the game at two 5:51 into the second period. With three minutes left in the game, OSU scored the go-ahead goal before adding an empty-net tally with 10 seconds left to secure a 4-2 victory.

How it Happened
OSU got on the board first with 1:42 left in the opening frame when Patrick Guzzo capitalized on a turnover in front of the Wisconsin net.

Graduate student forward Mosley tied the game at one 10 seconds into period two. Mosley took a shot, which rebounded off the goaltender's pads and into midair before the forward batted it into the net to score his 50th career NCAA goal.

Just 1:25 later, freshman forward Botterill gave Wisconsin a 2-1 lead. Botterill took a sharp-angle shot from the right side of the goal which bounced off Buckeye goaltender Kristoffer Eberly and into the net to give the freshman his fourth goal of the year.

At 5:51 into the second, the Buckeyes made it a 2-2 game after Max Montes scored a wrap-around goal.

Damien Carfagna scored the game-winner for OSU 16:59 into the final frame to give the Buckeyes a 3-1 advantage.

Ohio State's Davis Burnside tallied an empty-net goal with 10 seconds left in the game to seal a 4-2 victory.

Wisconsin went 0-for-2 on the power play and 2-for-2 on the penalty kill. UW finished the contest with a 30-20 advantage in shots on goal.
