Phoebe Bacon goes back-to-back in the 200 IM

Bacon earns a new personal best on the way to victory
COLUMBUS, Ohio – Phoebe Bacon led the Wisconsin women's swim and dive team to a successful second day at the Big Ten Championships as the fifth-year earned her second consecutive Big Ten title in the 200 IM with a new personal best time of 1:53.12.
The Badgers sit at fourth place in teams scores after day two with 301 points, trailing Ohio State (480), Michigan (431) and Indiana (378).
This marks Bacon's seventh individual Big Ten gold medal in her five years at Wisconsin, adding to her two medals in the 100-yard backstroke and three medals in the 200-yard backstroke, with her back-to-back victories in the 200 IM rounding it out. Beckie Thompson (2009-12) leads the Badgers all-time with 14 individual titles.Â
Bacon also helped the Badgers to a fifth-place finish in the 200 free relay, as the team of Hailey Tierney, Abby Wanezek, Phoebe Bacon and Abby Carlson finished with a time of 1:28.08.Â
Tierney represented the Badgers in the A-final of the 50 free finals, with a fourth-place finish in 22.01. Abby Wanezek finished in 15th with a time of 22.44.Â
Callahan Dunn clinched a ninth-place finish in the 200 IM, with teammate Katie McClintock not far behind finishing in 13th with a time of 1:57.17. Hazal Ozkan and Maggie Wanezek chipped in with 19th and 21st place finishes in the C-final.Â
In the 500 freestyle, Elle Braun led the Badgers in 15th-place in 4:44.64, as Abby Carlson finished 17th, Maddie Waggoner in 18th and Blair Stoneburg in 19th.Â
Competition will resume on Friday for Day three of the 2025 Big Ten Championships. Swimming prelims begin at 9 a.m. (CT) with 100 butterfly, 400 IM, 200 freestyle, 100 breaststroke, 100 backstroke. Diving trials on the 3-meter is set to begin at 12 p.m. (CT), with swimming finals beginning at 4:30 p.m. (CT).
