COLUMBUS, Ohio – Phoebe Bacon and the Wisconsin women's swim and dive team put up an impressive performance on day three of the Big Ten Championship as Bacon won the 100 backstroke and the 400 medley relay set a new school record on Friday night.
For the second night in a row, Bacon was crowned champion as she won the 100 backstroke for the third time in her career. She put up a time of 50.14 for an NCAA A cut and a new personal best time.
Bacon was also a member of the school record-breaking 400 medley relay as the butterfly leg, with
Maggie Wanezek at backstroke,
Hazal Ozkan at breaststroke and
Abby Wanezek on freestyle. The team finished with a time of 3:28.51, taking down the 2020 record of 3:29.28 set by the team of Nelson, Artim, Hosack and Palmer.
Freshman
Maggie Wanezek added to the Badgers success in the 100 backstroke as Wanezek won the Consolation final with a ninth-place finish with a time of 51.38. Mack McConagha rounded out that heat in 16th-place with a time of 54.74.
Hailey Tierney and McConagha represented the Badgers in the 100 butterfly, as Tierney finished 12th with a time of 52.55 and McConagha in 15th in 52.95.
Callahan Dunn put up an impressive 4:07.50 for a fifth place finish in the 400 IM. Freshman
Stella Chapman came in 22nd with a time of 4:14.07.
In the 200 freestyle,
Abby Carlson led the Badgers as she finished in fourth place with a time of 1:44.14.
Abby Wanezek finished 14th in 1:46.18 and
Blair Stoneburg checked in at 19th with a time of 1:46.53.
In the 100 breaststroke,
Hazal Ozkan came in sixth in 59.94.
Katie McClintock finished 19th and
Bridget McGann right behind her in 20th.
Competition concludes on Saturday with the final events of the 2025 Big Ten Championship. Prelims will begin at 9 a.m. (CT) with the 200 backstroke, 100 freestyle, 200 breaststroke, 200 butterfly and platform diving trials. The final session will begin at 4 p.m. (CT) with the 1650 freestyle, followed by the finals from the events in the morning session. The meet will wrap up with the 400 freestyle relay and the official awards ceremony.
