Select middle and long distance runners make their season debuts

MADISON, Wis. – The Wisconsin men's track and field team heads west for the Stanford Invite as several student-athletes will make their 2025 outdoor season debuts. Hosted by Stanford University, running events begin at 1:30 p.m. CDT on Friday, April 4, and at 3:46 p.m. on Saturday, April 5.

1. WEEKEND WINS: Junior Jacob Zednik won the javelin with a personal best of 217 feet, 8 inches (66.34 meters), ranking fifth on Wisconsin's all-time outdoor list at the Mangrum Invite on March 28. Senior Cole Hooper won the hammer throw with a mark of 202-8 (61.78 meters).

2. MIDDLE DISTANCE DEBUTS: Several Badgers are set to compete in the 1,500 meters, with first-team All-Americans Patrick Hilby and Andrew Casey making their outdoor season debuts. Both are members of Wisconsin's 2025 indoor distance medley relay. Joining them is freshman Liam Newhart, who became the 12th Badger to break four minutes in the mile with a time of 3:59.92 at the Big Ten Indoor Championships. Heats 4-6 begin at 3:51 p.m. Friday, with heats 1-3, including the invitational, starting at 8:55 p.m.

Sophomore Bryce Stachewicz will run the 800 meters. Heats begin at 4:56 p.m. Saturday.

3. DISTANCE DEBUT: The distance crew returns to the track this weekend in the 5,000 meters and 10,000 meters. Newhart, Matan Ivri, Logan Measner, and Rowen Ellenberg will compete in the 5,000 meters. Heat four begins at 1:30 p.m., with heats 1-3, including the invitational, starting at 9:56 p.m. Friday. In the 10,000 meters, Bob Liking, who ranks second on Wisconsin's all-time list with a time of 28:00.77, will lead the way. He will be joined by Micah Wilson and Johnny Livingstone. The invitational 10,000 meters (heat one) begins at 11:45 p.m., with heat two following at 12:55 a.m.

4. STEEPLE STARTS: Logan Measner, the 2024 Big Ten champion in the steeplechase, is set to open his outdoor campaign in the event. Measner, who ranks No. 7 in school history in the event, will be joined by freshman Nick Gilles. The steeplechase begins at 7:54 p.m. Friday.

5. UP NEXT: The Badgers head south for the 44 Farms Team Invitational, hosted by Texas A&M. Events begin at 11:55 a.m. on Friday, April 11, and at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 12.
