Five Things to Know: Badgers wrap up regular season in Augustana

Throwers travel south ahead of Big Ten Outdoor Championships

MADISON, Wis. - The Wisconsin track and field program gets set to wrap up its regular season campaign by traveling south to the Augustana Penultimate Qualifier on Friday, May 9 at 2:00 p.m. CT.

The Badgers will send multiple throwers down to the event. Fans looking to follow along from afar can check out the live results link, here

Live updates will be provided on the @BadgerTrackXC social pages throughout all of Friday.

1. LAST TIME OUT: Wisconsin hosted its lone home meet of the season at the Badger Challenge last weekend, breaking three school records while earning multiple first-place finishes in the process. Jason Swarens, Chloe Lindeman and Joseph White all broke school records in their respective throwing events, guiding the Badgers to a successful showing on their home turf. Julia Moore, Emma Kelley, Cole Hooper, Zonica Lindeque and White all finished with new top-10 marks in school history as well—boding well for the beginning of the postseason in a couple of weeks.

2. NEW WEEK, NEW RANK: After this weekend's action, the Wisconsin men's track and field program elevated to No. 23 in the newest update of the USTFCCCA rankings, good for fifth in the Big Ten. For the second straight week, the Badgers are listed as the No. 1 shot put unit in the event squad rankings, led by the likes of Swarens and White, who each place within the top-5 in the nation in the shot put. Swarens leads the country with the furthest heave of 70 feet, 1 ½ inches (21.37m), which he attained at the Badger Challenge last Friday.

3. BADGERS' HONOR SENIORS: At the Badger Challenge, the Badgers recognized 18 of their graduating seniors between the men's and women's programs. The class has brought home multiple accolades throughout their time at Wisconsin, including four men's Big Ten titles in cross country and a pair of men's indoor track and field championships in the process. The women's cross country team made the NCAA Championships all four years as well. Among the individual standouts, Bob Liking has won four straight Big Ten titles, the third to ever do so while also holding the school record in both the 5000 and the 10,000 meters in outdoor track. The aforementioned Lindeman enters this postseason as a three-time All-American and a Big Ten champion—coming off of a First-Team All-American honor in the indoor season. Adam Spencer is a former Olympian who currently holds the fastest time in the 1500 meters in the West Region of the NCAA—highlighting some of the top accomplishments from this class of athletes.

4. MORE INDIVIDUALS RISE: Lindeman elevated to the No. 7 position in the country in the hammer throw with a mark of 222-1 (67.70m), looking to make her first appearance at the NCAA Outdoor Championships to cap off a stellar career. Kelley's newest personal best in the 800 meters allowed her to rise to No. 6 in the Big Ten—competing with some of the best middle distance runners in the nation. To wrap up the throws on the women's side, Lindeque now ranks at the No. 5 spot in the Big Ten in the shot put after earning another personal best during this outdoor season.

5. UP NEXT: The Badgers prepare for their biggest meet of the outdoor campaign to date, as they will head out west to compete in the Big Ten Championships at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon. The meet will take place between Friday, May 16 and Sunday, May 18. Fans can check out the meet schedule here.
