Five things to know: Badgers host first meet of 2026 in Chicago

The Badger Midwest Invite is set for Saturday Jan. 10
MADISON, Wis. – The Wisconsin women's track and field team will host their first meet of the season, the Badger Midwest Invite. The event is set for Saturday Jan. 10. at Gatley Stadium in Chicago.
The Badger Midwest Invite is scheduled to start at 1:00 p.m. CT, with pole vault, high jump and weight throwing being the first events.
1. LAST TIME ON THE TRACK: Wisconsin sprinters kicked off the indoor season last month at the Cougar Alumni Open with heat. Four Badgers participated in the 60 Meter with freshman Catalina Sanchious finishing in first, sprinting it in 7.66 seconds. Elissa Perkins competed in four events for Wisconsin at the Cougar Alumni Open, the long jump, the 60 and 300 meter sprints and the 4x400. She finished in first place for the long jump, jumping 19-0 ¾ (5.81m), followed by eighth place in the 60 meters and 14th in the 300 meters. Freshman Nicole Repka debuted her Badger uniform, earning a second place finish in the 300 meters, sprinting the track in 39.21 seconds. Sophomore Emma Kruse was the only distance runner in attendance and earned her personal best in the mile. She finished in first place, with a time of 4:51.5.
2. GETTING HOT: The Badgers are set to compete in the 4x400 on Saturday, with three of the four runners who finished in first at the Cougar Alumni Open, with a time of 4:11.99. Elissa Perkins started the race for UW, followed by Nicole Repka, Sydney Robinson and finished by Rachel Robinson.
3. A LOOK BACK: Last year at the Badger Midwest Invite, Wisconsin earned first place-finishes, two of those finishes coming from the throwers. UW dominated in the weight throwing, earning the top four finishes. Danni Langseth performed personal best in shot put, throwing 53-7 (16.33), earning a spot at No. 6 on the Badgers' top-10 list.
