Gavin Morrissey strikes twice in B1G road victory
COLUMBUS, Ohio – Two goals from Gavin Morrissey fueled the No. 13/12 Wisconsin men's hockey team to its third consecutive win and a 4-2 victory over the Ohio State Buckeyes on Friday night at the Schottenstein Center.
Wisconsin (18-9-2, 11-8-0 Big Ten - 30 points) took a 2-0 lead early in the first period with goals 18 seconds apart from Grady Deering and Simon Tassy. Morrissey scored early in the second to give UW a 3-0 advantage heading into the final period. Ohio State (10-16-1, 6-11-0 Big Ten - 19 points) got on the board four minutes into the final frame, but Morrissey scored again to make it 4-1. With 14 seconds left, OSU scored with an extra attacker, but UW held on to claim the 4-2 victory.

First Period
The Badgers opened the scoring 5:38 into the first period with freshman forward Deering's third goal in three games.

Eighteen seconds later, at 5:56, senior forward Tassy doubled Wisconsin's lead.

At 15:19, Wisconsin got the first power play of the game, but halfway through the man advantage, a penalty was called on a Badger, leading to 59 seconds of four-on-four play before 1:01 of an OSU power play. Neither team scored during their power-play or the four-on-four time.
With 6.8 seconds left in the first, a penalty was called on the Buckeyes, so UW closed the opening frame and began the second on the man advantage.
Second Period
UW did not score in the remaining 1:54 of power-play time it had to open the period and the game remained 2-0.
The Buckeyes had their second power-play chance at 2:43, but they were unable to light the lamp.
Just after the penalty expired, at 5:01, sophomore forward Morrissey found the back of the net to extend Wisconsin's lead to three.

After UW's third goal, freshman goaltender Daniel Hauser was replaced by sophomore Eli Pulver after getting landed on from behind by an Ohio State player. Hauser finished with 12 saves and Pulver had 14.
Third Period
Ohio State got on the board, 3:59 into the third, with a goal from Davis Burnside.
Morrissey notched his second goal of the night at 15:04, putting the puck home on a breakaway chance after stealing an Ohio State neutral-zone pass.

At 11:27, UW had its final power play of the game, but OSU got the kill.
OSU's Burnside added one last tally at 19:46 with an extra attacker on the ice, but UW held on to secure a 4-2 victory.
Wisconsin went 0-for-3 on the power play and 2-for-2 on the penalty kill. UW finished the contest with a 28-25 deficit in shots on goal.
Notes to know
- This marks UW's first win at the Schottenstein Center since Dec. 4, 2020, ending an eight-game losing streak in the building
- Grady Deering has three goals in his last three games
- Gavin Morrissey (3g, 4a) and Christian Fitzgerald (3g, 3a) extended point streaks to four games
