Wisconsin preps for final meet before Big Ten Championships
MADISON, Wis. – The Wisconsin women's track and field team will travel to Milwaukee for their last meet before the post season. The weight throwers will head to UW-Milwaukee for the Panther Tune-Up. The action is scheduled to kick off at 10:00 a.m. CT.
1. LAST TIME OUT The weight throwers had success last weekend in Chicago at the Blue Demon Alumni Classic, placing first, third, fourth and fifth in the weight throw. Taylor Kesner, the reigning NCAA indoor weight throw champion, won the event with a heave of 70-6 ¼ (21.49m). Nora Skoraczewski placed third, followed by Thea Kral and Morgan Flaska. The throwers will look to keep their momentum into Saturday's meet.
2. IN THE RANKS: Three Badgers are ranked in the top-10 in the Big Ten in the weight throw, Kesners coming it at No.6, Skoraczewski at No.13 and Danni Langseth ranked No.17. Langseth and Zonica Lindeque are also ranked within the Big Ten for shot put, ranking No.16 and No.17. The weight throwers will look to remain steady before the Big Ten Championship.
3. PICKING UP THE PACE: Graduate students Kylie Finger and Leane Willemse sprinted their way into the UW Indoor record book last weekend in the 5000 meters. Finger moved to No.5 in the books, running a 15:50.00 race, finishing first in her heat at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational. She was followed by Leane Willemse, who finished third in her heat and moved to No.9 all time, running the 5K in 15:59.41. These two will have the weekend off before racing at Big Tens.
4. JOIN US TRACKSIDE: For Saturday's Panther Tune-Up , spectators attending in person can purchase tickets for $5 at the meet. 5. UP NEXT: The team will travel to Indianapolis for the Big Ten Championships starting next Thursday, Feb. 26. The meet will span three days, ending the evening of Saturday, Feb. 28.
