Augustus Counard-Ciechanowski earns personal best in pole vault
TAMPA, Fla. - The Wisconsin men's track and field team kicked off their outdoor campaign on Friday at the USF Alumni Invitational, highlighted by a personal best in the pole vault from sophomore Augustus Counard‑Ciechanowski.
Counard‑Ciechanowski tied for the event win, clearing 16 feet, 4 ¾ inches (5.00m).
In the throws, Jacob Zednik placed fourth in the javelin with a mark of 201‑0 (61.28m). Kyle Clabough kept the momentum going for the Badgers, also finishing fourth in the shot with a throw of 57‑5 (17.50m).
Freshman Tonovila Hicks returned to competition for the first time since early February, racing the 400‑meter hurdles. The Pennsylvania native placed 10th, crossing the line in 55.75 seconds.
Three Badgers competed in the 200 meters, led by Josh Onwunili, who finished 13th overall in 21.06. He was followed by Farraj Al Amin and Lorenz Forsmann.
Zion Omotesa raced in his second 800 meters of his career and his first outdoor attempt, finishing 14th in 1:52.48.
Robin Ott and Jack Schemeling finished the day off for Wisconsin in the long jump. Ott placed 27th with a mark of 20-6 ½ (6.26m), followed by Schmelling's 20-4 ¼ (6.20m), who placed 28th.
