Badgers top two boats beat No. 19 Georgetown, fall to No. 7 Dartmouth
FAIRLEE, Vt. – No.14 Wisconsin men's rowing challenged No. 7 Dartmouth and No. 19 Georgetown during the first day of the Lake Morey Invite on Saturday, April 25.
The Badgers excelled in the morning races, with both the varsity and second varsity eight boats surpassing Georgetown. The varsity eight boat came out on top against the Hoyas with a time of 5:48.4 to Georgetown's 5:53.4 over 2000 meters. The second varsity eight boat came in first at 5:52.3, over 10 seconds faster than the Hoyas.Â
The third varsity boat fell just a second short of Georgetown's boat in 6:10.7.
The Badgers came in second for all three races in the afternoon against No. 7 Dartmouth. The varsity eight race was a close one, with Wisconsin crossing the finish line at 5:55.5 to Dartmouth's 5:52.8. The second varsity eight finished at 6:01.6, and the third varsity eight with a time of 6:11.9.

Head Coach Beau Hoopman:
"The morning session was good, other than a little lackluster race in the third boat. Everyone made adjustments in afternoon racing and are feeling better after the second piece. We have to continue working on both ends of the piece. We can hang at base, but when the rate needs to come up, we lose a little bit of traction. Definitely progress today, a good step forward. Have to keep getting better. It's going to be a fast one tomorrow morning."
Lukas Weinhold:
"We found a little more motion in the 1V this afternoon, hit our base a lot better, and had good moves in the last 500. Every boat had a good piece today, and all three boats have made improvements since California. I think that bodes well for the next races and the rest of spring."
Up next: The Badgers will return to the water tomorrow to race against No. 17 Columbia on Sunday, April 26.Â
