Wu, Brody earn top-15 finishes
COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- Led by top-15 performances from Kate Brody and Tammy Wu, the Wisconsin women's golf team finished fifth in the Terps Invitational on Monday at the University of Maryland Golf Course. It's the team's best finish of the season thus far.
UW shot +24, overall, in their season-best effort, and beat Big Ten foes Michigan and Penn State.
Brody took 11th at three-over following her final round 70 (-2) that was the field's third-lowest round of the day. The junior bogeyed the second hole before ripping off an impressive bogey-free final 16 holes, where she went -3. Brody had the third-most birdies in the field this week with nine.
Wu finished 14th at +5 after her second-straight 73 (+1) on Monday. The redshirt junior finished with three birdies on her last five holes. Wu transferred to UW from Maryland this offseason, and preformed this week on her former home course.Â
True freshman Grace Slocum wrapped up her week in 39th at +11. She scored for UW in two rounds, highlighted by a first round 73 (+1). Sophomore Izzi Stricker was two strokes behind Slocum, coming in 49th at +13.Â
Senior Alexia Siehl scored in UW's final two rounds, and rose 10 spots on the leaderboard Monday. She finished 53rd at +14 off the strength of a second-round 73 (+1). Competing individually, true freshman Elyssa Abdullah finished 86th at +25.Â
The last time the Badgers finished top-five in an event was last season's MountainView Collegiate on March 4, where they placed fourth.
From the Course
UW Head Coach Todd Oehrlein
"We've had a really good trip and were able to get some great practice in while on spring break. We had challenging weather all weekend and I was really proud of how they handled it and adjusted to all the changing conditions. It was great to see contributing rounds from everyone. In particular, Kate and Tammy were steady all weekend, and I'm excited see them carry momentum as the regular season winds down."
Up Next: The Badgers head to their final regular season tournament next week at the Boilermaker Spring Classic, hosted by Purdue, on April 12-13.Â
