3. WORDS FROM THE WISE Â --Â After a long and gritty season, Wisconsin men's crew head coach Beau Hoopman looks to what lies ahead this coming weekend:Â
"We've been building speed and confidence since we landed on Saturday to acclimate to California. We got quite a bit of work done on a really cool body of water on the west side of Sacramento; you can row about 60 miles out to the ocean on this shipping canal if you were so inclined. The guys are peaking at the right time. We've been moving at the fastest splits of the season, and it will be fun to see what they can do."
Senior captain, Andrew Soman, shares the team's plan for IRAs:Â
"The past three weeks, we've been working on changing speed in the second half of a race. We showed good speed on our starts at sprints, but we lost pace in the middle thousand of the race. It's the opposite problem we had early in the season, where our starts held us back, but as the standards keep rising, it's something we need to continue to improve. Looking at Friday, we just want to focus on going fast and executing our own race plan. Last year, we put a lot of pressure on ourselves to focus on just beating one team, and this year, we want to focus on just having a good, complete race."Â
4. HOW TO FOLLOW – A recap with results will be posted on the UWBadgers.com website after each day of the race. Stay tuned on the @BadgerMRowing Instagram, Twitter and Facebook as well for live updates.Â
