Biography
2016-17: Placed fifth in the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:10.68) while taking eighth in the 500- (4:43.94) and 1000-yard freestyle events (9:44.84) vs. Minnesota ... finished sixth in the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:08.82) and seventh in the 500-yard freestyle (4:41.34) against Auburn
2015-16: Recorded three career-best times at the Big Ten Championship with a 27th-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle (1:38.15), an 11th-place finish in the 500-yard freestyle (4:22.21), and a seventh-place finish in the 1,650-yard freestyle (15:14.60) ... placed third in the 200-yard freestyle (1:42.69) and fourth in the 200-yard butterfly (1:56.60) vs. Green Bay ... finished sixth in the 500-yard freestyle (4:35.46) and eighth in the 200-yard freestyle (1:41.81) at Georgia ... placed fourth in the 1000-yard freestyle (9:31.20) and fifth in the 500-yard freestyle (4:33.66) at Auburn ... recorded a new personal-best time in the 1000-yard freestyle (9:26.47) at USC, which was good for third place ... finished 14th in the 1650-yard freestyle at the Texas Invitational ... Won the 500-yard freestyle at Northwestern (4:32.50) ... finished second in the 500-yard freestyle (4:33.33) vs. Minnesota.
2014-15: Recorded personal best times in every event he competed in at the Big Ten championships ... tallied 20 individual top-10 finishes ... placed fourth in the 1000-yard freestyle against Minnesota with a personal best time of 9:29.05
Prep: A native of Highlands Ranch, Colo., Mueller took second in the 500-yard freestyle and third in the 200-yard freestyle at the Colorado high school state meet. Mueller also dropped nearly 10 seconds in his 500 free from sophomore to junior year at Thunder Ridge High School. He is a two-time USA Swimming Scholastic All-American and vice president of his high school's student body.
Personal: Intends to major in biomedical engineering.
Hite on Mueller: "Nathan and Todd (Mueller) will be good training mates for four years. To accomplish the times that he's swam in Colorado is impressive and he's another big kid who we think will come in and really shine here."
