Badgers back on top with 2-1 win over BC

Senior Tom Gilbert's goal 9:32 into the third period proved to be the game-winner as Wisconsin defeated Boston College 2-1 in Milwaukee for the program's sixth national title. BC took a 1-0 lead midway through the first period, but junior goaltender Brian Elliott stopped every Eagles shot after that and 22 overall.

Robbie Earl scored twice two nights before as the Badgers defeated Maine 5-2 in the semifinal. Elliott had 31 saves in the game. Wisconsin hockey made history in 2006 when, for the first time ever, the men's and women's programs from the same school both won NCAA titles in the same year.

Drive for five is complete! UW downs Colgate 7-3

John Byce scored a hat trick for the Badgers as Wisconsin handled Colgate 7-3 for the program's fifth national title. Skating out to a 4-1 lead after one period, there was never much doubt that the Badgers were the top team in the title game.

Saturday night's championship match was a far cry from the nail-biter 2-1 win over Boston College in the semifinal. Chris Tancil scored both goals for the Badgers in the win over BC. The 1990 championship team won the second most games in team history en route to claiming both WCHA regular season and tournament titles.

Wisconsin tops Minnesota 6-3 for third title

With an at-large berth in the NCAA tournament, the Badgers had to go through all three DI conference champions to earn coach Bob Johnson his third title. After defeating ECAC champion Clarkson in a 9-8 total goal series, Wisconsin faced CCHA champion Northern Michigan in the semifinals. The Badgers dispatched the Wildcats 5-1 to advance to the title game.

Wisconsin matched up with WCHA champion and rival Minnesota for the national championship Saturday night. The Badgers jumped out to a 4-0 lead midway through the second period and never looked back, taking down the Gophers 6-3 for the team's third national title in nine years.

Alley's overtime goal lifts Bucky over Michigan 5-6

In a season in which the Badgers had won both WCHA and Big Ten titles, the only fitting way to finish was with an NCAA title. Steve Alley fulfilled that destiny scoring 23 seconds into overtime for a 6-5 win against Michigan in the championship game.

Wisconsin advanced to its second national title game in five seasons with a 4-3 overtime semifinal win over New Hampshire Friday night. Mike Eaves scored the overtime game-winner in that game. Coach Bob Johnson was named national coach of the year and his son, Mark, earned freshman of the year honors.

Badgers defeat Denver 4-2 for first NCAA title

Facing a 4-0 deficit Friday night against Cornell, the Badgers launched a furious comeback to tie the semifinal game at 5-5 with just five seconds left in regulation. Sophomore Dean Talafous scored the game-winner in overtime to send the Badgers to the title game the next night against Denver.

The No. 1 Pioneers went up 2-1 on Wisconsin early in the second period Saturday night, but the Badgers scored the final three, including another game-winning goal from Talafous to claim a 4-2 win and the first national championship at Wisconsin since boxing won a title in 1956. Talafous earned tournament MVP honors.
