Dr. John Wilson - Physician

John Wilson, M.D. is an assistant professor in the Department of Family Medicine and the Department of Orthopedics, Division of Sports Medicine. Dr. Wilson is originally from Green Bay, WI. He completed his undergraduate education at the University of Wisconsin - La Crosse, B.S. in Biology '98, and attended medical school at the University of Wisconsin - Madison, graduating in 2003. Dr. Wilson completed his residency training in Family Medicine at the University of Wisconsin. Following residency, he completed the Nathan Smith Fellowship in Primary Care Sports Medicine, and trained as a research fellow in the Ruth L. Kirschstein NRSA Research Fellowship.
Dr. Wilson serves as a UW team physician providing primary team coverage for the football and wrestling teams. He also provides care for athletes of all ages at the University of Wisconsin Sports Medicine Center at Research Park in Madison. He also practices Family Medicine at the UW Health Family Medicine Clinic in Verona, WI. Dr. Wilson's special interests in treatment and prevention of overuse tendon injuries and osteoarthritis in active individuals. His current research interests include the use of automated external defibrillators to treat sudden cardiac arrest in young athletes, and management of meniscal tears in adult populations. Dr. Wilson is board certified in Family Medicine, and is fellowship trained in Sports Medicine. He is a member of the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine, the American College of Sports Medicine, and the American Academy of Family Physicians.
