Wisconsin Badgers

When we look back at the Bo Ryan era at Wisconsin someday and talk about the key student-athletes that helped Ryan build the UW men's basketball program, Devin Harris's name will be at or near the top of the list.

A marvelously talented and confident guard from Wauwatosa, Wis., Harris scored 20 points in his Badger debut as a freshman and never looked back. He helped lead Wisconsin to Big Ten regular-season titles in 2002 and 2003, as well as a Big Ten Tournament crown in 2004. He was the Big Ten Player of the Year as a junior in 2004, earning second-team All-America honors that year.

One of Harris's many shining moments at Wisconsin came on March 5, 2003 when he hit a game-winning free throw with 0.4 seconds left to play at the Kohl Center to give the Badgers a 60-59 victory over Illinois and their first outright Big Ten title since 1947.

Harris decided to leave Wisconsin after his junior year and was selected in the first round (fifth overall) of the 2004 NBA Draft by the Dallas Mavericks. Harris was traded to the New Jersey Nets during the 2007-08 season and has become a budding young star at the professional level.
