University of Wisconsin Spirit Squad members are ambassadors of the University. Consisting of the Cheerleading Squad, Dance Team and Bucky Badger mascots, they make hundreds of appearances each year including Athletic, University, non-profit organization, corporate and private events. Appearance fees go directly into the general UW Athletic Department fund. Spirit Squad members are a group of students that dedicate their time and efforts to the University.Â
Guidelines for Spirit Squad appearances:
1. Requests must be received
at least one month prior to the event date.Â
2. Cheerleaders and dancers mingle and can pump up guests with basic fightsongs or cheers. They do not perform routines at events. You must provide UW Band music if needed.Â
3. A private and secure changing room is required (no public changing rooms).
4. Water
must be provided.Â
5. Costumes will NOT be loaned or rented.Â
6. Event planners may publicize the Spirit Squad's appearance at their event. Bucky Badger's image may not be used on promotional materials unless the event is related to the university. Internal use of Bucky Badger's image must be cleared with the Office of Trademark Licensing at 608-262-0195 or
licensing@athletics.wisc.edu.Â
7. Under no circumstances may it be stated or implied that any member of the UW Spirit Squad endorses or supports any business, product, service or political group. You agree to refrain from any action which may cause any member of the Spirit Squad to be portrayed in a negative light.Â
To request an appearance:
1. Contact the UW Spirit Squad office at
jrj@athletics.wisc.edu for an Appearance Request Form and event fees.Â
2. Fill out the appropriate request form and return to the office via email. Sign and date the request form.Â
3. To qualify for the UW-Madison Colleges, Divisions & Department rate, you must provide a UW Funding String for billing.Â
4. To qualify for a Non-Profit rate in the Madison area or if you are tax-exempt, please attach a W-9 and IRS Determination Letter (i.e. 501 (c)(3)) to the request form.Â
5. Companies requesting an appearance will also be required to attach a W-9 to the request form.
6. Requests must be received at least
one month prior to event.
7. Upon receipt of your request, you will receive an email with confirmation of your request and the appearance fee for your event.Â
8. Appearance fees are calculated using the travel time to and from the UW campus to the event, changing time plus your actual event time.
9. Completion of the request form does not guarantee that the request can be filled. Availability is dependent on the Spirit Squad's game, academic & personal schedules.Â
10. Confirmation of appearances can be expected approximately one month prior to the event and is the event planner's responsibility to reach out and see if the request was filled.Â
11. Once your event request has been filled, you will receive an invoice.Â
12. All payments are due at least
two weeks prior to the event.Â
13. After payment is received, there will be no cash refunds for requests to cancel the appearance. A request to reschedule the appearance within the academic year will be considered.Â
