Janet Huff
Celebrating Wisconsin's Black History
Janet Huff was one of the first stars of the Wisconsin women’s basketball program. After joining the team as a walk-on in the fall of 1980, Huff was among the Big Ten’s best by the time she was finished. A native of Milwaukee, she became the first Badger women’s basketball player to earn All-Big Ten status, taking home second-team honors in 1983 and first-team accolades in 1984.
Huff earned the prestigious Big Ten Medal of Honor for academic and athletic excellence in 1984 after finishing with nearly 1,500 career points and setting numerous Badger records. Huff finished her career second on UW’s all-time scoring list with 1,455 points and first in both career assists (412) and steals (294). She also set the school’s single-season scoring record, averaging 19.1 points per game as a senior.
Huff played three seasons with her sister, Theresa, who would also go on to score over 1,000 career points and set the school’s rebounding record before becoming the first UW player to play professionally.
