Reason for choosing UW-Madison: On the academics side, the computer and data science departments are highly-regarded throughout the country for their research in several sub-fields of computer science. Additionally, the vast network of student and student-athlete alumni provide graduates with an unbelievable network post-graduation. In athletics, Wisconsin is known for the "walk-on" mentality of hard work, something I found especially present with the rowing team. The history and culture of the team too were something that drew me towards rowing here. Finally, the deal-maker for me was the beautiful campus and city. Madison has so much to offer and is very similar to my hometown in Michigan.
What Wisconsin Rowing means to Garrison: Wisconsin rowing is a chance to challenge myself and my teammates daily. It represents a mindset of accountability that all past, present, and future Wisconsin oarsmen have held -- one of constantly pushing themselves to not only be the best rower or student possible, but to be the best person they can possibly be.
