Robin Pingeton is in her second season as the head coach of the University of Wisconsin women’s basketball program. She was named the Badgers’ head coach on March 25, 2025, bringing more than 30 years of coaching experience, a strong track record of success and a commitment to player development both on and off the court. In her first season at Wisconsin, Pingeton led the Badgers to a 16-18 record, the program’s first WBIT semifinal appearance and wins over ranked opponents Michigan State and Nebraska. Wisconsin also finished the season with 16 wins, the most by the program since 2010-11.
Pingeton arrived in Madison following a 15-year tenure as the head coach at the University of Missouri, where she led the Tigers to four consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances from 2016–19 and multiple 20-win seasons. Over her time at Missouri, Pingeton compiled a 250-218 record and helped revitalize the program in the highly competitive Southeastern Conference. She also coached numerous All-SEC players and helped develop players who went on to professional careers in the WNBA and overseas.
During her Missouri tenure, Pingeton led the Tigers to three top-five SEC finishes and the highest-ranked win in program history, a victory over No. 1 South Carolina. Missouri reached No. 11 in the Associated Press Top 25 during the 2017-18 season, the program’s highest ranking since 1984-85. Pingeton also coached three WNBA draft picks, including Missouri all-time leading scorer Sophie Cunningham, and helped develop four 1,000-point scorers and two 2,000-point scorers.
Prior to Missouri, Pingeton served as the head coach at Illinois State from 2003 to 2010. During her seven seasons with the Redbirds, she compiled a 144-81 record and led the program to three WNIT appearances, including consecutive WNIT semifinal appearances in 2008-09 and 2009-10. She also guided Illinois State to two Missouri Valley Conference regular-season championships and earned Missouri Valley Conference Coach of the Year honors in 2004.
Pingeton began her head coaching career at her alma mater, St. Ambrose University, where she coached from 1992 to 2000. She compiled a 191-76 record and led the Bees to three conference championships and multiple NAIA postseason appearances, including two Elite Eight finishes. She was named Missouri Valley Conference Coach of the Year in 2004 and 2010 during her later coaching career.
Prior to becoming a head coach, Pingeton spent three seasons on the Iowa State coaching staff from 2000 to 2003, serving as an assistant coach before being promoted to associate head coach.
Throughout her career, Pingeton has emphasized player development, accountability, leadership and academic achievement. Her players have earned nine All-America honors, five conference Player of the Year awards, 45 All-Conference selections and nine SEC All-Freshman Team honors. Her teams have also produced seven Academic All-Americans and numerous conference academic honorees.
As a player, Pingeton was a standout at St. Ambrose University, where she became the school's all-time leading scorer with 2,502 points and earned All-American honors in both basketball and softball. She also played professionally in the WBA from 1990-92.
Pingeton and her husband, Rich, are the proud parents of two sons, Blake and Zach.
