Reason for choosing UW-Madison: UW-Madison offers research opportunities, academic excellence and a great sense of community. The friendliest people I have met are from Wisconsin, and that kindness translates to the classroom and all over campus. I love to serve others and dedicate my time to volunteer work, so I did some research and saw UW is genuinely community oriented. I grew up in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and moved to Lancaster, Pennsylvania. While I enjoyed me time in Pennsylvania, I knew Wisconsin was truly my home. After talking with students and learning about previous alumni, I was inspired to follow my passions for service and I knew I belonged in Madison.

What Wisconsin rowing means to you: I come to practice every day because I know that the boathouse is a place where I am accepted, appreciated and challenged. Being part of a team has helped me through many challenges in my life, and while adjusting to college has been great, having a close community of girls I see every day has made me feel so much better. I feel empowered after finishing a tough workout. I have also gotten out of my comfort zone since being here. Taking up a new sport at a division one school takes a lot of confidence, and I am proud of myself for taking a leap of faith and diving into a new activity. I also really look up to the coaches and the varsity girls. Seeing their work ethic and passion inspires me to be a better person on behalf of my team and for myself makes me feel really rewarded. Rowing is the best thing that has happened to me since I have gotten to Madison, and is arguably going to be one of the biggest turning points in my life if I continue to prove to myself that I can do tough things.
