Summary

Biography

Honors: 2021 Academic All-Big Ten

Head coach Kelly Sheffield on Wohlert: “Julia is a great young lady with a fantastic future, both on and off the court. She’s intelligent, kind, and a quick learner. She’s relatively new to the sport but has turned into a very good player. She received really good coaching and her development just took off as the club season progressed. The size of her block and the amount of space she takes away from hitters is very unique. She has the potential to be a game changer with her blocking. Offensively, she can hit off of one or two feet and she can hit first or second-tempo sets.”

Why Wisconsin?
"I chose Wisconsin because I knew this school and program would push me to be the best all-around person that I could be.
The campus is amazing, and the academics are top-notch. I loved the culture of the team and saw myself playing in the Field House."

Off the court with Julia

First started volleyball: third grade
Most memorable volleyball match: Baylor in national semifinal
The best part of playing volleyball is: the teammates and family away from home that you get.
My favorite thing about Wisconsin volleyball is: the whole team and support staff. We have such a great team full of strong women trying to attain big goals. We also have so many resources to help us get there.
Before each match, I: have a dance party in the locker room.
Best UW road trip: 2019 European tour was AMAZING!
One word that describes the team: driven
One word that describes me: compassionate
What is the best thing you bring to the team? an ear to listen
Favorite thing to do off the court with my teammates is: Terrace on summer nights
Most memorable volleyball achievement: Going to a national championship
Is there anything significant about your uniform number? Taylor Swift’s favorite number (I’m a HUGE fan)
The best thing about the Field House is: how many fans can pack it
My “Bucky” List is: win a national championship, have a snowball fight/build a snowman on frozen lake, and go to as many different sports games as I can!
Dream as a collegiate player: win a national championship
Post-college plans/goals: go to graduate school for public health
The best thing about Madison is: the city and campus feel all set on two lakes.
What is your favorite Coach Sheffield saying? Be an active participant in your own rescue
Post-college plans/goals: continue schooling for a master’s degree in public health
What causes do you care about? human rights advocacy (Black Lives Matter, female reproduction rights) and climate change

What does it mean to be a Badger?
"To be a Badger is working to be your best self in every aspect of your life. Having a 'bring it' mentality that you attack every day with."
