Kevin Schultz serves as the Director of Olympic Strength and Conditioning at the University of Wisconsin, a position that he was elevated to in 2021. In this capacity, he oversees the strength and conditioning services for 22 sport programs and three strength and conditioning facilities on campus. Schultz leads a team of five full-time coaches and two graduate assistants. He additionally serves as the strength and conditioning coach for the volleyball proram. Prior to assuming leadership of the department, Schultz served as the Associate Director of Olympic Strength and Conditioning at Wisconsin from 2015 to 2021. Schultz is actively involved in the athletic department serving a three-year term on the Committee of Academic Staff Issues (CASI) and is currently the chair of the Coaching Advancement Grants and Assistantships Committee for the NSCA Foundation serving a three-year term.
Prior to coming to Wisconsin, Schultz served as the director of sports performance at the University of Wisconsin–La Crosse from 2011-15. He also served as an assistant football coach for the Eagles during the 2011-14 seasons. On the gridiron, Schultz was the special team’s coordinator and running backs coach.
Prior to joining the staff at UW-L, Schultz served as the director of strength and conditioning at Carnegie Mellon University (Pa.) from 2008-11. Schultz was in charge of all 17 varsity sports strength and conditioning sessions for the Tartans. He also served as an assistant coach with the football team in the fall primarily working with the inside linebackers, and with the men's and women's track and field teams, working with the throwers during the winter and spring season.
Schultz started his coaching career at La Crosse Logan High School from 2003-05 as an assistant boys and girls track and field coach working with the freshman, junior varsity and varsity throws groups. He also spent the 2006 season coaching running backs at his alma mater, Waukesha West High School, while he student taught in the Milwaukee Public School District. In the spring of 2007 he interned at Arizona State University working primarily with football.
Schultz received his bachelor's degree in exercise and sport science teaching with concentrations in strength and conditioning and coaching competitive athletics from UW-L in 2006, and his master's degree in exercise and sport science human performance with an emphasis in strength and conditioning also from UW-L in 2008.
In the spring of 2010, Schultz received a post-masters certificate in rehabilitation sciences with an emphasis in corrective exercises from California University of Pennsylvania. The following year, Schultz received an associate’s certificate from the Community College of Allegheny County in massage therapy. In 2012, Schultz received a post-masters certificate in rehabilitation sciences with and emphasis in sport psychology from California University of Pennsylvania. Schultz is currently pursuing his doctorate of philosophy in sports administration and leadership.
Playing fullback at UW-L, Schultz was a member of Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) championship teams in 2002, 2003 and 2004. He was a graduate assistant strength and conditioning coach at UW-L from 2007-08 and was a member of the strength and conditioning student staff in 2005-06. Schultz was also an assistant women's track and field coach for the Eagles.
Schultz holds the distinction as a registered strength and conditioning coach and certified strength and conditioning specialist by the National Strength Coaches Association, a Level 1 certified weightlifting club coach and sports performance coach by USA Weightlifting, a certified corrective exercise specialist and certified performance enhancement specialist by the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM), a certified strength and conditioning coach by the United States Cross Country and Track & Field (USTFCCCA), a registered USATF Level 1 Coach by USA Track & Field, a certified technical coach by the USTFCCCA, a certified sports nutritionist by the International Society of Sports Nutrition, a certified fitness nutrition specialist by NASM, a BioSignature® Level 1 practitioner by the Poliquin Group, a Level 1 certified precision nutrition coach Percision Nutrition, a certified Kinesio® Taping Practitioner by Kinesio® Taping Association, a level 1 reflexive performance reset practitioner, and is trained as an upper body active release therapy practitioner, is certified as a myofascial decompression practitioner, is a certified FMT Blades, Basic, Pods and Floss practitioner by RockTape®, is certified personalized blood flow restriction rehabilitation practitioner by Owens Recovery Science, and is licensed by the State of Wisconsin as a massage therapist.
