Following five seasons with the team, former Badger wrestler Joe Zargo joined the Wisconsin staff as a coaching assistant in 2026.
Considered a highly regarded leader of the team, Zargo is beginning his coaching career with the Badgers. He also coaches the Wisconsin Regional Training Center (WRTC), helping develop and support elite wrestlers in Wisconsin.Â
Known for his strong dual performances, Zargo wrestled for the Badgers from 2021-2026. He completed his career with the Badgers as a four-time NCAA championship qualifier with 70 wins, including a 21-10 record in his final season.Â
Zargo graduated from UW with a degree in personal finance, earning numerous scholastic honors including two Academic All-Big Ten and NWCA Scholar All-American awards, as well as a Big Ten Distinguished Scholar honor.Â
A native of South River, New Jersey, Zargo came to Wisconsin from Bergen Catholic as New Jersey’s top recruit. He earned two Fargo All-American honors and was the 2019 FloNationals United Wrestling World Cadet Freestyle Champion.Â
