After 20 years as Wisconsin’s head football equipment manager, Mark Peeler was named UW’s Director of Equipment Operations in 2017.

Peeler started at UW in the spring of 1995 as the assistant football equipment manager before quickly being promoted to head equipment manager in the summer of 1997. In his most recent position, he was responsible for supervising six full-time equipment managers and 15 student employees. Peeler oversaw the entire equipment operation for the football team, including distribution of apparel, locker room oversight, maintaining and reconditioning equipment and packing and transportation of apparel and equipment for road games and bowl games.

As director, Peeler leads, manages, and oversees all operational, financial and personnel activities of the equipment operations for UW Athletics. This includes oversight of the working relationship with the department’s shoe and apparel provider and other vendors to effectively address all the equipment needs of the department’s 23 athletic programs and 26 support units. He also directs the creation, implementation and enforcement of equipment room policies and procedures; management and oversight of equipment room budget and purchasing, athletic safety and equipment fitting program, electronic record keeping, physical inventory control and security, laundry services and equipment, and football equipment travel.

Peeler, a 1993 graduate of Western Carolina University, began his career as the head student football equipment manager at WCU. He then spent a season as an undergraduate football intern at North Carolina and a brief time as an equipment intern at Northwestern. After 20 months as an assistant equipment manager at Syracuse, he moved to Madison to begin his career with the Badgers.
